First the History of Pogs: The game of pogs originated in the 1920s on the Hawaiian island of Maui. There dairy workers played the game during breaks using simple milkcaps. Almost 70 years later, a Hawaiian schoolteacher reintroduced the game and mass appeal soon followed.

Pogs, (an acronym for a popular Hawaiian drink made from Passion fruit, Oranges and Guava juices) is played with disc-like object which have pictures on its face side. Each player would take an equal number of pogs and would stack at least four pogs one on top of another with the faces down. One of the players would then take a different-sized disc (called a slammer) and would strike a stack of the pogs with it. Whichever pogs landed faceup would be retained by that player. After each player had taken their turn(s), the one with the most pogs was the winner.

The Next Generation ELBiES®: The History of ELBiES® began at Champion Tae Kwon Do Academy in San Diego, CA in November 2003. Grand Master Won Kee Min (8th degree black belt) was brainstorming with Mr. Statman, a student's father and owner of Everyone Loves Buttons Inc., about developing a reward system to motivate his students of all ages. Grand Master Min wanted to reinforce his teaching of proper form and sparring techniques while encouraging his students to yell loudly ('kee-hap') at appropriate times to gain MORE POWER.

ELBiES® is the brainchild of Mr. Statman who spent 7 months researching and developing a unique collectible game piece that was customizable & would appeal both to kids and adults.

The word "ELBiES®" was based on a shortened version of Mr. Statman's company Everyone Loves Buttons (ELB). iE® (pronounced i-ee) was added to represent the loud 'kee-hap'  Grand Master Min taught his students to make when kicking and punching.  The meaning of  iE® is MORE POWER!

To play ELBiES The Game® A slightly larger disc was developed called the iE® which is used to strike opponents' ELBiES® with more power.

ELBiES® collectible game pieces (USA Patent No. 6723447) easily stack on top of one another since they are slightly contoured.  ELBiES®  is the game of stack'em  and strike'em for kids.

Power points were later incorporated to make this a unique collectible for adults. (see Collecting area)
